Avoid giving money to the beggars;
instead help the local associations
or orphanages. Always
bargain while doing shopping.
Many shops are closed on Sundays.
On Weekdays, small shops are usually
closed from 1pm to 4pm for lunch.
Remove shoes at the entrance of a
house, temple, mosque or even some
shops.
You can take an Auto-Rickshaw for
Rs.30 to Rs.60 inside Pondicherry.
Shorts or very tight clothes worn
by women may attract unwanted attention.
Avoid drinking tap water. Drink bottled
mineral water.
Always carry mosquito repellent in
the evening.

It is advisable to wear cotton clothes
during the day and open sandals.
If you're going to be there in the
rainy months, umbrellas are an absolute
necessity.
Guesthouses
or Accommodations operated by Sri
Aurobindo Ashram have a strict policy
on No Smoking, No Drinking and the
gates are closed by 10.30pm.
Pondicherry Tourist Information Centre
is located at 40 Goubert Salai. It
is open daily from 8:45 am to 1 pm
and then again from 2 pm to 5 pm.
